'Tis the Season #3

(Also published on "Unchain My Art")

The East Coast is snowed in.

Luckily, Jet Blue is not letting its passengers go through the packing frenzy and drive to the airport just to discover that fact. They sent this email 7.5 hours before the flight, which gave plenty of time to rebook.

And so, no snow for us yet - we're still here, waiting for the snow to ease up a bit. Sitting in the rain. In the cold. Uphill. Both ways.

In the meantime, this is a painting I did at warmer times. A small study of a scene that's captured me.

I like this quirky color scheme that lends itself to a very different mood.

What's the story behind this one?

Well - that's for you to create your own.

Right now, it looks like this guy is wondering about the weather with a grain of concern.

Hi, Nava!

Where we you going? The sun came out today along with zero temperatures. But, no more snow! Maybe your flight can fly this week!

Nava,

I think the subject of your portrait is wondering "Why do people wish me Happy Chanukah, when Hanukkah (alternate spelling) "celebrates one of the greatest Jewish military victories in history. Hanukkah celebrates the victory of Judah the Maccabee and his four brothers over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E. The Syrian-Greeks had sought to impose the paganism of the Hellenistic world on the Jews. Antiachus, king of the Syrian-Greeks, sought to outlaw all Jewish ceremonies. Interestingly, Chanukah is not considered a religious holiday by the Jews -- work can be performed and children can attend school."

So "Happy" 2nd day of Hanukkah! Enjoy your trip to the cold Northeast.

Love,

JimmyB

It looks to me like he's reminiscing of days gone by...
Great color!

It's a guy wondering why they keep building so many big ugly buildings when nobody can afford to either live in them or stay in business in them.

His eyes are green. I wonder if he is thinking of money - getting more of it or bemoaning the lack of it - or ecological "green" and the lack of it?

It appears he's meditating a decision that has life-altering consequences.

That, or the bus is running late.
